Fish & Ships

Saturday and Sunday, June 13 & 14, 1pm – 5pm

60 Cedar Hill Avenue, Nyack, NY 10960 (map)

This exhibit, at the Pavion Building on 60 Cedar Hill Avenue in Nyack, will be a centerpiece of Nyack’s celebration of the four hundredth anniversary of the discovery of the Hudson River by Henry Hudson and the discovery of Lake Champlain by Samuel de Champlain.

It’s also the two hundred second anniversary of Robert Fulton’s successful steamboat on the Hudson, so he’s being honored too. The celebration will take place all up and down the River and can be previewed on the website www.ExploreNY400.com.

The exhibit will include artifacts, photographs, paintings, audiovisuals, interactive exhibits and documents. Subjects will include Native Americans, the Dutch influence, African Americans on the river, boat building, the Revolutionary War, steamboats serving Nyack, riverfront characters, fish and fishing, water quality, art, recreation and the Tappan Zee Bridge. Besides the exhibit there will be many other activities this summer related to the Hudson River, some that we cosponsor, and some by other organizations.

Look for walking tours, lecture and slide programs, Native American appearances, visiting ships, Art Walk, theater, movies, concerts, and Nyack’s own Amazing Grace Circus! Nyack will be a summer festival! And don’t miss the county’s exhibit, The Tappan Zee Bridge: Transforming Rockland County, opening May 24 at the Historical Society of Rockland County, 15 Zukor Road, New City, NY 10956.
